Materials

• Balloons
• Plastic bags or a dropcloth to cover the floor
• Cooking spray
• White glue
• ½ cup cornstarch
• ¼ cup hot water
• Scissors
• Yarn
• Mixing bowl

Instructions

1. Blow up balloons to different sizes (filling balloons only halfway will help you achieve a more spherical shape) and knot each balloon
2. Create a drying area. If you’re working outdoors or in the garage, hang up a clothesline. If you’re working indoors, suspend a string between two chairs. Be sure to put a dropcloth or several plastic bags under the drying area to catch drips
3. Hang balloons from strings above the drying area
4. Spray balloons with cooking spray; this will make it easier to remove the yarn later
5. In the mixing bowl, mix hot water with cornstarch
6. Add a bottle of white glue and mix thoroughly
7. Dip yarn into the glue mixture and gently squeeze out the excess with your fingers — you may want to wear rubber gloves for this step!
8. Beginning at the knot end, wrap the inflated balloon with the wet yarn. The more you wrap, the denser the ball will be
9. Wrap in all directions, top to bottom and side to side
10. When you’re satisfied with the wrapping, cut the string
11. Repeat the process with the remaining balloons
12. Allow the balloons to dry completely. This may take up to 24 hours. The yarn should be stiff and dry
13. Pop the balloon. Try very gently kneading the balloon before popping it to separate it from the yarn. Remove the popped balloon

DIY Egg Baskets

1. Faux flowers: Attach a faux flower to the center of the straps with hot glue.

2. Thread: Apply double-sided tape to the tops of straps, then wrap embroidery floss or yarn in a pretty pattern. Secure ends of yarn with glue.

3. Yarn: Wrap and tie fuzzy yarn around the straps. Take it over the top by gluing or threading colorful buttons onto the yarn.

4. Fabric Scraps: Cut strips of scrap fabric about 3 1/2-inches long and 1-inch wide. Tie strips to the straps and trim.

5. Handkerchiefs: Cut a colorful handkerchief into strips and tie or wrap around the straps.

6. Beaded: Glue metal studs, beads or precious-looking stones like imitation turquoise or emeralds to the straps.

7. Formal: Make a bow tie out of black ribbon, and glue it to a pair of black or white flip-flops for a casual-yet-formal fashion statement.

8. Charmed: Glue linked chain to the top of the straps, then clip personalized charms to the chain.

9. Glittery: Attach double-sided tape on the tops of the straps and sprinkle with glitter until the tape is covered.

10. Padded: Wrap a strip of very thin batting around the flip-flop straps, then wrap scrap fabric around the batting. Secure ends with industrial-strength glue.

11. Duct taped: Use brightly colored or patterned duct tape to embellish the straps.

12. Lacy: Hot glue ruffled lace to the straps to add a beautiful touch.
